2019 Stencil Art Prize Judges
Jess Scully
Jess Scully is an elected Councillor for the City of Sydney, part of the Clover Moore Independent Team. In her day job, she is a curator who uses creativity to engage communities in the knowledge economy. She was the founding curator of Vivid Ideas, Australia’s largest creative industries event, and has previously worked as a policy advisor, public art curator, radio host and magazine editor.
Tristan Chant
Tristan is a Sydney based printmaker, curator and arts manager. He holds a Batchelor of Fine Arts majoring in Printmaking from the National Arts School and a Masters of Arts Administration from UNSW Art & Design. Tristan has worked as a printmaker for leading Australian artists at Whaling Road Studio and currently holds the title of Visual Artist Manager & John Fries Award Producer at Copyright Agency|Viscopy
2017 Stencil Art Prize Judge
RONE
Beginning his artist career as a stencil artist in the early 2000’s in Melbourne, Australia, before expanding into other styles of painting. Rone is one of Australia’s most prolific muralists and street artists. Previous judges of the Stencil Art Prize have included Ha Ha, Vexta, Phibs and E.L.K to name a few. Check out Rone here.
2016 Stencil Art Prize Judges
Ralph Hobbs
Ralph has been involved in the art world for 25 years as a dealer, artist, teacher and writer. He is a founding owner of Nanda\Hobbs Contemporary (formally Art Equity) which represents some of Australia’s most dynamic mid-career artists. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Art, a Diploma of Education and a Masters in Fine Art and Design and is a licensed fine art valuer.
Ralph’s eye for exceptional art and his in-depth knowledge of art history enable him accurately to determine what makes an artwork both collectible and valuable. Known for his generous sharing of knowledge in a non-intimidating way, he is a sought-after public speaker, with an engaging enthusiasm for art and artists. Ralph is a published author, a regular commentator on art and the art market, and is also a practising artist. His work is included in the National Gallery of Australia.

In these duel rolls Tristan is responsible for the advocacy of artist’s rights and the remuneration of use for artists work.Tristan is also the Founding Director of Conductors Project a public art initiative which bought artistic projects to St. James and Museum train stations in Sydney between 2011 and 2014.
2015 Stencil Art Prize Judges
Phibs
Phibs is one the most respected and renowned names in Australian Graffiti/Street Art. His public art works are prolific in Melbourne & Sydney and are far-flung across the globe. He has painted so many walls around Fitzroy, an inner suburb of Melbourne, that it has affectionately become known by locals as ‘Phibsroy’. Now based in Sydney, Phibs continues to exhibit interstate and internationally in galleries, on walls and at various festivals.

2014 Stencil Art Prize Judges
Simone Sheridan
Simone graduated from Fine Art at the University of Newcastle (Australia), majoring in Printmaking. As well as pursuing her own practice, Simone founded Street Art Walking in 2011. The project has its roots in creative placemaking, and has seen over 20 site-specific street art interventions across the city, ranging from traditional murals to legal flypostering. This work has been written about across the world, and has seen Simone invited to join the Project for Public Spaces Placemaking Leadership Council. She attended the organisation’s inaugural meeting with over 200 placemakers from across the globe in Detroit, Michigan. Alongside Street Art Walking, Simone has acted as consultant for This Is Not Art Festival, the Create Innovate Gosford City Project and Hunter Development Corporation. She is a keen advocate for the arts and placemaking, but is particularly interested in building meaningful collaborations between artists and businesses. Simone is experienced in project management, creative marketing, event management and project creation. She is an experienced speaker on placemaking, public art and street art.
Poncho Army
Poncho Army has been a Stencil Art Prize finalist for the past 5 years. Her current work combines illustration, stencil art and water-based screen prints. Â As well as creating and exhibiting her own artworks, she books regular art shows for Bitter Phew in Sydney. Poncho Army owns and operates Anchors Aweigh Art Studio, an urban and contemporary workshop space, design house and art/graff supply store in Wollongong, Australia.
Eddie Zammit
Eddie Zammit is the founder of T-World which is the only printed journal dedicated to T-shirt culture globally. He carries with him almost twenty years of education and experience in the creative industry. Having presided as a partner and Creative Director of his own former design agency for thirteen years, Eddie estimates the number of magazines he has art directed to be 500+. He works between Melbourne, New York and Sydney exercising his aptitude and passion for art direction and curation to help, for the most part, move the T-shirt culture forward. He has curated a number of high profile exhibitions, including for Sesame Street titled ‘Brought to you by the letter T’ (2010), ‘NEXT: The future of T-shirt graphics’(2011) and ‘TEES: Exposing Melbourne’s T-shirt culture’(2012/13) for the National Gallery of Victoria.
2013 Stencil Art Prize Judges
Penelope Benton
Penelope is an artist, curator and arts manager. She holds a BA in Visual Arts , MArtAdmin, Grad Dip in Arts Mgmt and is current MFA candidate at COFA, she also currently manages the COFA Dept of UNSW’s student organisation, Penelope completed a two year directorship at Firstdraft Gallery, is one of the founders and co-owner/Directors of The Red Rattler Theatre, Sydney’s first legally licensed non-profit, volunteer-run warehouse for artists and activists. Penelope was joint Artistic Director for Art Month Sydney in 2013.
Miss Link
Miss Link is an Australian stencil artist who won the inaugural 2009 Australian Stencil Art Prize. She has a background in graphic design and a lifetime of visual expression in various media. Stencil work has become her favoured choice; she enjoys the reference to pre-digital graphic reproduction in which she apprenticed after leaving school. Miss link has exhibited in various galleries and group shows across Australia.
Julian Edwards
Julian Edwards is an art consultant, he directs JE Art Consultants which is a fine art sales and consultancy service. Over the last ten years Julian has been selling art and providing consultancy advice to both private and commercial clients. He has a deep knowledge of Contemporary, Modern, Abstract, Photography, Landscape and Aboriginal Art and works with Australian and international artists.
